Description
Home shirt worn by Arsenal F.C. between 1990 and 1992, a period that encapsulated both the peak of George Graham’s reign and the beginning of a new era at Highbury. During these two seasons, Arsenal lifted the First Division title in dominant fashion before welcoming club legend Ian Wright and navigating a more turbulent campaign in the final season before the creation of the Premier League.
The shirt features Arsenal’s iconic red body with white sleeves, enhanced by distinctive red and black detailing running along the tops of the sleeves. A white neckline trimmed with red and black stripes completes the design, creating one of the most recognisable Gunners shirts of the early 1990s.
The kit is most famously associated with the 1990–91 season, when Arsenal produced one of the greatest league campaigns in English football history. Despite receiving a two-point deduction following a mass confrontation with Manchester United F.C. at Old Trafford, the Gunners stormed to the First Division title, losing just one of their 38 league matches all season. Their defensive record was extraordinary, conceding only 18 goals, with goalkeeper David Seamanand the legendary back four of Lee Dixon, Tony Adams, Steve Bould and Nigel Winterburn forming the foundation of their success.
Further forward, striker Alan Smith led the attack, finishing as the club’s top scorer with 27 goals in all competitions and claiming the First Division Golden Boot. Swedish winger Anders Limpar enjoyed a superb debut campaign, contributing 11 league goals and becoming a fan favourite with his creativity and flair.
The following season brought significant change. Arsenal returned to European competition after English clubs were readmitted to the European Cup, while the club-record signing of Ian Wright from Crystal Palace F.C. injected fresh energy into the attack. Wright made an immediate impact, scoring 26 goals in all competitions for Arsenal and quickly establishing himself as one of the most exciting forwards in the country.
Despite boasting the highest-scoring attack in the division with 81 goals, Arsenal struggled to replicate the defensive solidity of the previous year. An inconsistent start and defensive lapses ultimately left them 10 points behind champions Leeds United F.C., resulting in a 4th-place finish. The season also featured a famous FA Cup shock as Arsenal were eliminated by lower-league Wrexham A.F.C., one of the competition’s most memorable giant-killings.
Worn during a title-winning campaign, the arrival of Ian Wright, and the final years of Arsenal’s famous Graham-era dynasty, this home shirt remains an enduring symbol of one of the club’s most successful and influential periods.
