Description

Home shirt worn by Arsenal F.C. during the 1998–99 season, a dramatic campaign under manager Arsène Wenger defined by narrow margins, historic cup battles, and one of the most competitive Premier League title races ever seen.

The shirt features a red base with two bold white panels running down either side of the body, while the white sleeves are separated from the red torso by sharp navy striping at the front. A white collar with a navy neckline frames the design, and red-and-white striped cuffs complete the look, giving the shirt a distinctive late-90s aesthetic that reflects a period of both elegance and intensity for the club.

The 1998–99 season saw Arsenal begin as defending Premier League and FA Cup champions after their famous Double the previous year. They started the campaign strongly, lifting the Charity Shield with a commanding 3–0 win over Manchester United F.C., but ultimately fell just short in their pursuit of back-to-back league titles.

Arsenal finished 2nd in the Premier League with 78 points, missing out on the title by a single point to Manchester United, who went on to complete a historic treble. Defensively, however, Arsenal were extraordinary, conceding just 17 league goals, the best defensive record in the division and one of the greatest ever recorded in a Premier League season.

At the heart of the side was the legendary defensive unit of David Seaman, Lee Dixon, Nigel Winterburn, Martin Keown, and Tony Adams, whose organisation and resilience underpinned the team’s success. In midfield and attack, Dennis Bergkamp remained the creative focal point, combining vision and intelligence with consistent end product, while emerging star Nicolas Anelka finished as top scorer and continued his rapid rise.

The season also saw the arrival of Freddie Ljungberg, who made an immediate impact by scoring on his debut against Manchester United, and the winter signing of Nwankwo Kanu, adding flair and depth to the attacking options.

In cup competitions, Arsenal suffered heartbreak in the FA Cup semi-final replay against Manchester United, in a match remembered for Dennis Bergkamp’s missed late penalty and Ryan Giggs’ iconic extra-time solo goal. In Europe, the club competed in the UEFA Champions League for the first time under Wenger, hosting home fixtures at Wembley Stadium, but were eliminated at the group stage.

Despite the lack of silverware, the 1998–99 season is remembered as one of fine margins and elite consistency, with Arsenal establishing themselves as Manchester United’s closest and most persistent challengers at the peak of the late-1990s Premier League era.

Washing Instructions

Care Instructions To keep your shirt looking its best for years to come, please follow these guidelines carefully.
🌡️ Temperature
Wash at 30°C maximum. Higher temperatures can damage the fabric, fade colours, and crack printed lettering.
🔄 Cycle
Use a gentle or delicate cycle only. Avoid heavy spin cycles which can distort the shirt shape.
👕 Inside Out
Always turn the shirt inside out before washing to protect the back print, badges, and any embroidery.
🧴 Detergent
Use a mild liquid detergent. Avoid powder detergents, bleach, or fabric softeners as these can degrade print quality.
💨 Drying
Air dry only — lay flat or hang away from direct sunlight. Do not tumble dry as heat will shrink fabric and damage prints.
🔥 Ironing
Do not iron directly over printed areas or badges. If needed, iron on the reverse side only using a low heat setting.
Do not dry clean. Do not wring or twist. Wash separately from items with zips or rough textures that could snag the fabric.
⚠️ Back Print & Badge Care Printed names, numbers, and woven badges are particularly sensitive to heat and abrasion. Always wash inside out, never iron over them directly, and avoid contact with rough surfaces during washing.
