Description
Away shirt worn by Aston Villa F.C. during the 1993–94 and 1994–95 seasons, a turbulent but defining period that saw the club move from League Cup success under Ron Atkinson to a rebuilding phase under Brian Little as they fought to preserve their Premier League status.
The shirt features a striking green and black vertically striped base, layered with fine red pinstripes running through the design. It is finished with a classic black collar, giving the kit a bold and unconventional look compared to Villa’s traditional claret and blue identity, making it one of the most distinctive away designs of the mid-1990s.
The 1993–94 season began brightly for Aston Villa, as they balanced domestic inconsistency with cup success. The standout moment came at Wembley Stadium, where Villa defeated Manchester United F.C. 3–1 in the League Cup Final. Goals from Dalian Atkinson and a brace from Dean Saunders secured one of the club’s most memorable modern trophies, even as league form saw them finish 10th in the Premier League.
In Europe, Villa also competed in the UEFA Cup, reaching the second round before being eliminated by Deportivo de La Coruña. Despite flashes of quality, the squad struggled for consistency in the league, reflecting a side still evolving after its early Premier League success.
The 1994–95 campaign proved far more difficult. A poor run of results led to Ron Atkinson’s dismissal in November 1994, with Brian Little taking over and guiding the team through a tense relegation battle. Villa ultimately finished 18th in the Premier League with 48 points, narrowly avoiding relegation in a season where four teams were demoted due to league restructuring.
During this transitional period, Little began reshaping the squad, moving on experienced players and introducing new core figures such as Ian Taylor and Alan Wright. Key performers like Paul McGrath and Dwight Yorke remained central to the team’s identity as they fought to stabilise performances.
Worn across two contrasting seasons of success and survival, this away shirt represents a unique chapter in Aston Villa’s modern history, one defined by Wembley glory, dramatic managerial change, and the foundations of a new era at Villa Park.
