Description
Home shirt worn by Aston Villa F.C. during the 1993–94 and 1994–95 seasons, a contrasting two-year period that moved from Wembley triumph to a tense relegation battle as the club transitioned between the managerial reigns of Ron Atkinson and Brian Little.
The shirt features a maroon base with fine light blue vertical pinstripes running throughout the body, finished with a clean light blue collar. The design blends Villa’s traditional colours in a subtle, classic style that became closely associated with the early Premier League era.
The 1993–94 season delivered one of the club’s most memorable modern achievements despite inconsistent league form. Aston Villa lifted the League Cup at Wembley after a commanding 3–1 victory over Manchester United F.C., with goals from Dalian Atkinson and a brace from Dean Saunders sealing a famous cup final win. In the Premier League, Villa finished 10th, recording 15 wins, 12 draws, and 15 losses across the campaign, while also reaching the second round of the UEFA Cup before being eliminated by Deportivo de La Coruña.
The following 1994–95 season proved far more difficult. A poor run of form led to the dismissal of Ron Atkinson in November 1994, with Brian Little taking charge and immediately stabilising results. Despite improvement under his leadership, Villa were drawn into a relegation fight and ultimately finished 18th in the Premier League with 48 points, narrowly avoiding the drop in a season where four clubs were relegated due to league restructuring.
Significant squad changes took place as Little began rebuilding the team, moving on experienced players such as Kevin Richardson and Ray Houghton while introducing future key figures including Ian Taylor and Alan Wright.
Across both seasons, Dean Saunders remained Villa’s primary attacking threat, leading the scoring charts in the league during the 1994–95 campaign and providing crucial goals in both domestic and European competition. Supporting contributions from players such as Dwight Yorke and leadership from Paul McGrath helped sustain the side through a period of major transition.
Worn through a dramatic rise and fall in fortunes, this shirt represents both the high point of early 1990s Villa success and the difficult rebuilding phase that followed, bridging two defining seasons in the club’s modern history.
