Description

Third shirt worn by Boca Juniors during the 1998/99 Copa Mercosur campaign.

The shirt features a clean white base covered with fine horizontal navy and yellow pinstripes, creating a distinctive and modern look while still reflecting Boca Juniors’ famous club colours. A navy and yellow neckline adds bold contrast, with matching cuffs completing the design in a balanced and stylish way. The combination of crisp white with subtle striping gives the shirt a unique late-1990s aesthetic, making it one of Boca’s more memorable alternate kits of the era.

The 1998/99 period marked the beginning of a hugely successful modern era for Boca Juniors under manager Carlos Bianchi. While Boca stormed to the Torneo Apertura title unbeaten domestically, they also competed in the inaugural Copa Mercosur. Drawn in a group with Vélez Sarsfield, Flamengo, and Cerro Porteño, Boca finished second with three wins and three defeats to qualify for the knockout rounds. A standout result was a commanding 3–0 home victory over Flamengo, with goals from César La Paglia, Diego Cagna, and Fernando Navas. In the quarter-finals, Boca were eliminated by eventual champions Palmeiras after a 4–2 aggregate defeat, having lost the first leg in São Paulo before drawing the return match in Buenos Aires. Bianchi often rotated his squad during the competition as Boca prioritised their domestic title charge.

With stars such as Martín Palermo, Guillermo Barros Schelotto, Juan Román Riquelme, Óscar Córdoba, and Walter Samuel emerging during this era, the club was building the foundations for the major international success that soon followed. This shirt is remembered as a standout third design from the late 1990s and part of the early Bianchi years that transformed Boca Juniors into a dominant force once again.

Washing Instructions

Care Instructions To keep your shirt looking its best for years to come, please follow these guidelines carefully.
🌡️ Temperature
Wash at 30°C maximum. Higher temperatures can damage the fabric, fade colours, and crack printed lettering.
🔄 Cycle
Use a gentle or delicate cycle only. Avoid heavy spin cycles which can distort the shirt shape.
👕 Inside Out
Always turn the shirt inside out before washing to protect the back print, badges, and any embroidery.
🧴 Detergent
Use a mild liquid detergent. Avoid powder detergents, bleach, or fabric softeners as these can degrade print quality.
💨 Drying
Air dry only — lay flat or hang away from direct sunlight. Do not tumble dry as heat will shrink fabric and damage prints.
🔥 Ironing
Do not iron directly over printed areas or badges. If needed, iron on the reverse side only using a low heat setting.
Do not dry clean. Do not wring or twist. Wash separately from items with zips or rough textures that could snag the fabric.
⚠️ Back Print & Badge Care Printed names, numbers, and woven badges are particularly sensitive to heat and abrasion. Always wash inside out, never iron over them directly, and avoid contact with rough surfaces during washing.
