The shirt features a vibrant yellow base, creating a bold and eye-catching alternative to Boca Juniors’ traditional navy colours. The 2001/02 season was a transitional campaign for Boca Juniors following the extraordinary success of the Carlos Bianchi era. After years of domestic and international triumphs, Boca finished 3rd in both the Apertura and Clausura championships while remaining competitive at the top end of Argentine football. The season also marked the end of Bianchi’s first spell as manager in December 2001, with Óscar Tabárez returning to guide the side through the second half of the campaign.

In international competition, Boca entered the season as defending Copa Libertadores champions but were eliminated in the quarter-finals by eventual winners Olimpia. On the world stage, Boca narrowly lost 1–0 after extra time to Bayern Munich in the 2001 Intercontinental Cup in Tokyo, while their Copa Mercosur campaign ended in the group stage. The squad still featured leading figures such as Juan Román Riquelme, Carlos Tevez, Guillermo Barros Schelotto, Marcelo Delgado, Óscar Córdoba, and Sebastián Battaglia, ensuring Boca remained one of South America’s strongest teams.

This shirt is remembered as part of an important changing point in Boca Juniors history, bridging the end of one golden era and the beginning of the club’s next chapter. With its bold yellow colourway and strong club identity, it remains one of Boca’s most distinctive away shirts of the early 2000s.
