Description
Home shirt worn by Cardiff City F.C. during the 1992 to 1994 period.
The shirt features a dark blue base with a lighter blue scratch-style pattern running throughout the fabric, creating a textured and energetic design typical of early 1990s football kits. Red detailing is subtly integrated into the design, adding contrast, while a crisp white collar and cuffs complete the look. The collar is finished with red and blue striping, tying the colour scheme together and giving the shirt a distinctive and balanced aesthetic.
The 1992–93 season is remembered as one of the greatest in Cardiff City’s history under manager Eddie May. Nicknamed “Eddie May’s Barmy Army,” the side delivered a historic league and cup double, capturing both promotion and silverware in a campaign that remains legendary among supporters.
In Division Three, Cardiff City finished 1st in the league, securing promotion after a season of consistent and determined performances. The attacking partnership of Phil Stant and Chris Pike was central to their success, with both players scoring 12 league goals, while Stant finished the season with 19 in all competitions.
The club also triumphed in the Welsh Cup, defeating Rhyl 5–0 in the final at the National Stadium, with Phil Stant scoring a hat-trick. That victory secured European qualification, sending Cardiff into the European Cup Winners’ Cup, where they were ultimately eliminated by Admira Wacker.
The 1993–94 season proved far more difficult following promotion to Division Two, as Cardiff battled throughout the campaign to avoid relegation. Despite struggles in the league, the season featured one of the club’s most famous FA Cup moments, as Cardiff stunned Manchester City F.C. with a 1–0 victory, courtesy of a memorable curling strike from Nathan Blake.
Cardiff also reached another Welsh Cup final but were defeated 2–1 by Barry Town, while their European campaign ended in a 8–3 aggregate defeat to Standard Liège. The season concluded with a 19th-place finish, reflecting a difficult but eventful year in the higher division.
This home shirt is remembered as a symbol of Cardiff City’s dramatic early-1990s journey, from historic double winners to hard-fought survival in a challenging step up the football pyramid.
