Description
Description
Home shirt worn by Celtic during their 1993/95 seasons.
The shirt features Celtic's green and white hoops, with each green band filled with a tonal pattern of interlocking diamonds and chevrons in two shades of green. The white bands are left plain and separated from the green by fine pinstripes, while the geometric print carries across the shoulders and short sleeves. A green and white polo collar with a V neck completes the design.
This shirt covers one of the most turbulent periods in Celtic's modern history. In 1993/94 Liam Brady resigned in October after a defeat by St Johnstone, and Lou Macari took over as Celtic finished fourth, behind champions Rangers. Off the pitch the club came close to receivership before Fergus McCann and Brian Dempsey took control on 4 March 1994, a takeover that led to the redevelopment of Celtic Park. Macari was dismissed that summer and Tommy Burns was appointed manager in July 1994. With the stadium being rebuilt, Celtic played every home match of 1994/95 at Hampden Park. The season brought heartbreak in the League Cup final at Ibrox, where Celtic drew 2-2 with Raith Rovers and lost 6-5 on penalties, but it ended in triumph on 27 May 1995, when Pierre van Hooijdonk's header beat Airdrieonians 1-0 in the Scottish Cup final at Hampden. It was Celtic's first major trophy in six years, even though the club finished fourth in the league.
A bold geometric green and white hooped home shirt, worn by Celtic through a near collapse and the Scottish Cup win that ended a six year wait for a major trophy.
