Description

Away shirt worn by Celtic during their 1996/97 season.

The shirt features bold hoops of fluorescent yellow and a dark, near black green, with a faded watermark splash effect breaking across the dark bands. Jagged yellow stripes run down the raglan sleeves, and a dark polo collar with a short buttoned placket completes one of the most daring designs of the decade.

Nicknamed the "Bumblebee," the shirt was worn as Tommy Burns' side tried to halt Rangers' dominance, with a squad featuring Paolo Di Canio, Pierre van Hooijdonk and Jorge Cadete. It was worn in a 4-0 win over Hibernian, and in the New Year's Day Old Firm match at Ibrox in 1997, when Cadete scored in a 3-1 defeat. Despite summer signings including Di Canio and Alan Stubbs, the season ended without silverware. Celtic finished second in the league, went out of the League Cup to Hearts and were eliminated from the Scottish Cup by Falkirk. The design stayed in use for a second season, when it accompanied Wim Jansen's side to the 1997/98 league title, Celtic's first since 1987/88 and the one that stopped Rangers reaching ten in a row.

💨 Drying
Air dry only — lay flat or hang away from direct sunlight. Do not tumble dry as heat will shrink fabric and damage prints.
🔥 Ironing
Do not iron directly over printed areas or badges. If needed, iron on the reverse side only using a low heat setting.
Do not dry clean. Do not wring or twist. Wash separately from items with zips or rough textures that could snag the fabric.
⚠️ Back Print & Badge Care Printed names, numbers, and woven badges are particularly sensitive to heat and abrasion. Always wash inside out, never iron over them directly, and avoid contact with rough surfaces during washing.
