Description
Home shirt worn by Celtic during their 1997/98 season.
The shirt features Celtic's green and white hoops, with a subtle diamond texture through the green bands and a large, faded watermark of the club badge spread across the front. The badge sits centred on the chest, the first time it had been placed there since 1979. A white polo collar with green trim carries the club name at the neck, and the sleeves finish with green diamond patterned cuff trim.
This was the season Celtic stopped Rangers winning a record ten league titles in a row. New manager Wim Jansen made a difficult start, losing the opening two league matches, with Henrik Larsson making his debut as a substitute in a 2-1 defeat at Hibernian. The turnaround began on 30 November 1997, when goals from Marc Rieper, Larsson and Craig Burley gave Celtic a 3-0 win over Dundee United in the League Cup final at Ibrox, the club's first League Cup since the 1982/83 season, won without conceding a goal. The title race went to the final day, and on 9 May 1998 Larsson opened the scoring and Harald Brattbakk added a second in a 2-0 win over St Johnstone at Celtic Park, securing the championship by two points ahead of Rangers. Jansen resigned soon afterwards, having delivered two trophies in his only season in charge.
