Description
Description
Home shirt worn by Celtic during their 1998/99 season.
The shirt features Celtic's green and white hoops, with a subtle diamond texture woven through the green bands and a large, faded watermark of the club badge spread across the front. The badge itself sits centred on the chest, with a gold script "Scottish Premier League Champions 1997/98" commemoration stitched beside the collar. A white polo collar with green trim carries the club name at the neck, and the sleeves finish with green diamond patterned cuff trim.
The champions script marks the 1997/98 season, when Wim Jansen's side won the title by two points to stop Rangers claiming a record ten in a row, adding the League Cup along the way. Jansen resigned at the end of that season, and Jozef Venglos took charge for the defence of the title in 1998/99. In October 1998 Venglos brought in fellow Slovak Lubomir Moravcik for £330,000, a signing met with scepticism in Scotland that quickly turned into admiration, and in November Celtic beat Rangers 5-1 at Celtic Park. Henrik Larsson scored 38 goals in all competitions and Celtic scored 84 league goals, more than any other side, but Rangers finished six points clear and clinched the title with a 3-0 win at Celtic Park on 2 May 1999. The season ended with a 1-0 defeat to Rangers in the Scottish Cup final at Hampden.
A green and white hooped home shirt with a badge watermark and champions script, worn by Celtic as they defended the title that ended Rangers' pursuit of ten in a row.
