Description
Description
Away shirt worn by Celtic during their 1999/00 season.
The shirt features a black base covered in bands of a repeating tonal green pattern built from the club's circular badge, separated by thin neon yellow green stripes that run across the body and down the sleeves. A bright neon yellow green collar with black striped trim and an open V neck completes a bold, unmistakably late 1990s design.
The 1999/00 season was one of upheaval at Celtic. John Barnes started brightly as manager, winning 12 of his first 13 games, including a 5-0 win at Pittodrie on the opening day. The campaign unravelled after Henrik Larsson broke his leg in two places in a UEFA Cup tie against Lyon, and Paul Lambert also suffered a long term injury. In February 2000, a 3-1 home defeat by second tier Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the Scottish Cup was widely viewed as the club's worst result in 30 years, and Barnes was sacked two days later. Kenny Dalglish took over as caretaker and led the side to League Cup success, though Celtic finished 21 points behind Rangers in the league. Martin O'Neill was appointed that summer, setting the stage for the treble that followed.
A black away shirt with neon yellow green stripes and a tonal crest pattern, worn by Celtic through a turbulent season that ended with League Cup silverware.
This design was first used as the away kit in 1998/99 with a different sponsor, then switched to the ntl version shown here for 1999/00, so the dating on your listing is correct for this shirt.
