Description

Away shirt worn by Chelsea F.C. during the 1998–99 and 1999–2000 seasons, a defining period in the club’s modern rise under player-manager Gianluca Vialli, as Chelsea established themselves as genuine contenders domestically and in Europe with a richly talented, internationally diverse squad.

The shirt features a clean white base with refined blue detailing throughout, reflecting Chelsea’s traditional colours in a modern, late-1990s design style. It is finished with a blue collar accented by a white and yellow stripe, adding a subtle flash of contrast, while the sleeves feature white cuffs with matching blue and yellow striping. The overall look is elegant yet bold, perfectly aligned with a Chelsea side that blended technical flair with growing competitive authority.

The 1998–99 season saw Chelsea continue their upward trajectory, finishing 3rd in the Premier League with 75 points and firmly establishing themselves among England’s elite. The squad, built around world-class names such as Gianfranco Zola, Marcel Desailly, Gustavo Poyet and Tore André Flo, combined flair and defensive solidity to mount a serious title challenge, ultimately falling just short of Manchester United and Arsenal.

That same season also delivered European success, as Chelsea lifted the UEFA Super Cup with a 1–0 victory over Real Madrid, thanks to a late strike from Poyet. They also reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup, further underlining their growing continental reputation.

The 1999–2000 campaign brought further success in cup competition. While league form dipped slightly to 5th place, Chelsea secured a historic FA Cup triumph, defeating Aston Villa 1–0 in the final at Wembley thanks to a decisive goal from Roberto Di Matteo. It marked the final FA Cup final played at the old Wembley Stadium and remains one of the most significant moments in the club’s pre-Abramovich era.

Chelsea also enjoyed an impressive debut UEFA Champions League campaign, producing memorable wins over elite opposition including AC Milan, Lazio and Barcelona before exiting in dramatic fashion at the Camp Nou. Meanwhile, the emergence of a young John Terry signalled the beginning of a new generation at Stamford Bridge.

This away shirt became closely associated with one of the most exciting periods in Chelsea’s history before the club’s transformation in the 2000s, a time defined by flair, European nights, and the foundation of modern success.

Washing Instructions

Care Instructions To keep your shirt looking its best for years to come, please follow these guidelines carefully.
🌡️ Temperature
Wash at 30°C maximum. Higher temperatures can damage the fabric, fade colours, and crack printed lettering.
🔄 Cycle
Use a gentle or delicate cycle only. Avoid heavy spin cycles which can distort the shirt shape.
👕 Inside Out
Always turn the shirt inside out before washing to protect the back print, badges, and any embroidery.
🧴 Detergent
Use a mild liquid detergent. Avoid powder detergents, bleach, or fabric softeners as these can degrade print quality.
💨 Drying
Air dry only — lay flat or hang away from direct sunlight. Do not tumble dry as heat will shrink fabric and damage prints.
🔥 Ironing
Do not iron directly over printed areas or badges. If needed, iron on the reverse side only using a low heat setting.
Do not dry clean. Do not wring or twist. Wash separately from items with zips or rough textures that could snag the fabric.
⚠️ Back Print & Badge Care Printed names, numbers, and woven badges are particularly sensitive to heat and abrasion. Always wash inside out, never iron over them directly, and avoid contact with rough surfaces during washing.
