Description
Home shirt worn by Chelsea F.C. during the 2006–07 and 2007–08 seasons, a defining late-Mourinho and early-Grant era period in which the club remained one of Europe’s elite sides while enduring dramatic managerial change and a series of near misses on the biggest stages.
The shirt features a rich royal blue base with clean white detailing, including bold white stripes running down each sleeve, a crisp white neckline, and matching white cuffs. The design reflects a more traditional and streamlined Chelsea aesthetic, symbolising stability and identity during a period of both sustained success and growing pressure to deliver European silverware.
The 2006–07 season saw manager José Mourinho guide Chelsea through another highly competitive campaign following heavy investment in world-class signings such as Andriy Shevchenko, Michael Ballack, and Ashley Cole. While the Premier League title eluded them, Chelsea remained dominant in cup competitions.
The Blues secured a domestic cup double, winning the League Cup with a 2–1 victory over Arsenal F.C., and lifting the FA Cup after a 1–0 win over Manchester United F.C. in the first final held at the newly rebuilt Wembley Stadium. In Europe, Chelsea reached the UEFA Champions League semi-finals, where they were eliminated on penalties by Liverpool F.C..
The 2007–08 season began with major upheaval as Mourinho departed in September, with Avram Grant stepping in as manager. Despite uncertainty, Chelsea produced one of their most resilient seasons, mounting strong challenges across all competitions.
They finished as Premier League runners-up after pushing Manchester United F.C. to the final day, and also reached the League Cup final, where they were narrowly defeated in extra time by Tottenham Hotspur F.C.. Their most dramatic run came in the UEFA Champions League, where they reached the club’s first-ever final in Moscow, ultimately losing on penalties after a 1–1 draw.
Key figures of this era included Didier Drogba, who produced a phenomenal 33-goal season in 2006–07, captain John Terry, midfield anchor Frank Lampard, and goalkeeper Petr Čech, all central to Chelsea’s sustained competitiveness.
This shirt therefore represents one of Chelsea’s most emotionally charged periods, an era of domestic cup success, relentless league challenges, and unforgettable European heartbreak that came agonisingly close to delivering the Champions League trophy.
