Home shirt worn by Chelsea F.C. during the 2012 FIFA Club World Cup campaign, a tournament in which the Blues reached the final in Japan but ultimately finished as runners-up after a narrow defeat to Brazilian champions Corinthians.

Chelsea entered the competition in Japan after qualifying as UEFA Champions League winners, competing under interim manager Rafael Benítez following the departure of Roberto Di Matteo earlier in the season. The tournament represented Chelsea’s first opportunity to become world champions.

In the semi-final, Chelsea defeated Mexican side CF Monterrey 3–1, with goals from Juan Mata, Fernando Torres, and an own goal forcing their place in the final. However, the decisive match in Yokohama proved a frustrating evening for the Blues.

Against Corinthians in front of a heavily pro-Brazilian crowd, Chelsea were edged out 1–0. The only goal came in the 69th minute, when Paolo Guerrero reacted quickest to a looping ball inside the box to head home from close range. Despite creating multiple chances, Chelsea were denied repeatedly by a superb performance from goalkeeper Cássio, who produced a series of crucial saves to frustrate Eden Hazard, Torres, and others.

Late drama further compounded Chelsea’s disappointment, with a disallowed Torres header and a red card for Gary Cahillin stoppage time after an off-the-ball incident. The defeat ended European dominance in the competition and saw Corinthians become the last non-European team to lift the FIFA Club World Cup.

Despite missing out on global glory, this shirt remains associated with Chelsea’s peak continental era—marking the moment they came closest to becoming world champions before ultimately being denied on the final stage.
