Chivas de Guadalajara 2016/17 110th Anniversary Away Shirt

Away shirt worn by C.D. Guadalajara during the 2016 and 2017 seasons, released as part of the club’s 110th Anniversary collection.

The shirt features a distinctive light blue and dark blue vertical stripe design, offering a modern alternative to Chivas’ traditional red and white identity while still maintaining a strong visual connection through its detailing. A dark blue collar and matching cuffs are finished with red and white striping, subtly tying the design back to the club’s classic colour palette. The combination of tones and clean striping gives the shirt a refined yet bold aesthetic, making it a standout piece from the anniversary range.

The 2016/17 season was one of the most successful in the history of C.D. Guadalajara, as manager Matías Almeydaguided the team to a historic domestic double and a return to the summit of Mexican football. Known for his intense pressing style and strong team unity, Almeyda transformed Chivas into one of the most competitive sides in Liga MX.

The campaign began with early silverware in the Supercopa MX, where Chivas defeated Veracruz 2–0 in 2016. In the Apertura 2016 season, the team reached the quarter-finals of the Liga MX playoffs and the final of the Copa MX, narrowly losing on penalties to Querétaro. Despite these setbacks, the foundations for a historic year had already been laid.

The highlight came in Clausura 2017, when Chivas completed one of the greatest campaigns in their modern history. After finishing 3rd in the regular season, they defeated Atlas, Toluca, and Tigres UANL in the final to secure the Liga MX championship. The decisive second leg saw Chivas win 2–1 at Estadio Chivas following a dramatic playoff series.

Key players during this period included striker Alan Pulido, who scored in both legs of the final, midfielder Orbelín Pineda, who provided creativity and balance in midfield, and veteran leader Carlos Salcido, who captained the side and anchored the defence. Goalkeeper Rodolfo Cota also played a crucial role throughout the campaign.

This away shirt is remembered as a unique anniversary design that represents one of the most successful eras in modern Chivas history, symbolising a season where identity, unity, and achievement combined to deliver historic success.
