In the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, Flamengo finished 9th overall. One of the standout moments of the campaign came on 13 March 1985, when the club recorded a remarkable 7–0 victory over Santa Cruz, the biggest home win of the entire Brasileirão season. In the Campeonato Carioca, Flamengo reached the final triangular phase but ultimately finished 3rd behind Fluminense and Bangu.

The defining moment of the season came on 14 July 1985, when Zico made his official return to the Maracanã in front of a packed crowd. Flamengo defeated Bahia 3–0, with Zico scoring a trademark free-kick in a performance that became one of the most iconic moments in the club’s history and a lasting memory for Rubro-Negro supporters.

Alongside Zico, Flamengo’s squad still featured several legendary names from the club’s dominant early-1980s era, including Tita, Leandro, and Andrade, players who helped maintain Flamengo’s reputation as one of Brazil’s strongest and most beloved clubs.
