The 2001 season was one of the most dramatic campaigns in Flamengo’s history, combining major trophy success with a tense fight against relegation in the Campeonato Brasileiro. Despite domestic league struggles, the club still managed to deliver unforgettable moments and lift important silverware.

Flamengo secured the Campeonato Carioca title, completing a historic tricampeonato with three consecutive state championships between 1999 and 2001. The defining moment came in the final against Vasco da Gama, when Petkovićscored a legendary late free-kick into the top corner to seal the title in one of the most iconic moments in Rio football history.

The club also lifted the Copa dos Campeões after defeating São Paulo 7–6 on aggregate in an extraordinary final, securing qualification for the 2002 Copa Libertadores. Flamengo additionally reached the Copa Mercosur final, narrowly losing on penalties to San Lorenzo after a hard-fought continental campaign.

In the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, however, Flamengo endured a disastrous season and finished 24th, narrowly escaping relegation in the closing weeks. A crucial victory against Palmeiras, featuring an important goal from young midfielder Felipe Melo, proved decisive in preserving the club’s place in the top flight.

The squad featured several notable names during the campaign, including Petković, Edílson, goalkeeper Julio Cesar, and a mixture of experienced veterans and emerging talent. The team was managed for much of the year by legendary coach Mário Zagallo before Carlos Alberto Torres took over later in the campaign.

This away shirt is remembered as a classic Flamengo design from a chaotic but unforgettable season, symbolising dramatic cup triumphs, iconic goals, and one of the club’s most remarkable escapes from relegation.

Use a gentle or delicate cycle only. Avoid heavy spin cycles which can distort the shirt shape.

👕 Inside Out

Always turn the shirt inside out before washing to protect the back print, badges, and any embroidery.

🧴 Detergent

Use a mild liquid detergent. Avoid powder detergents, bleach, or fabric softeners as these can degrade print quality.

💨 Drying

Air dry only — lay flat or hang away from direct sunlight. Do not tumble dry as heat will shrink fabric and damage prints.

🔥 Ironing

Do not iron directly over printed areas or badges. If needed, iron on the reverse side only using a low heat setting.

Do not dry clean. Do not wring or twist. Wash separately from items with zips or rough textures that could snag the fabric.

⚠️ Back Print & Badge Care Printed names, numbers, and woven badges are particularly sensitive to heat and abrasion. Always wash inside out, never iron over them directly, and avoid contact with rough surfaces during washing.
