The 2002 season proved even more successful, highlighted by Fluminense winning the Campeonato Carioca, their first state title of the 21st century. The club also enjoyed a strong national campaign, finishing 3rd in Série A after reaching the semi-finals, marking one of their best league performances in years. That season also featured the arrival of Romário, who made a major impact by scoring 15 goals in 22 matches. Other key contributors included Magno Alves and Beto, while the team went through multiple managerial changes before stabilising under Renato Gaúcho.
