Description

Away shirt worn by Leicester City F.C. during the 1983–84 and 1984–85 First Division seasons, a period defined by stability in the top flight and the emergence of one of the most iconic attacking trios in the club’s history.

The shirt is built on a striking dark green base, brought to life by fine vertical yellow pinstripes that run across the entire body, giving it a bold and instantly recognisable 1980s aesthetic. A bright yellow collar frames the neckline, while matching yellow cuffs finished with green striping complete the design, creating a sharp contrast that reflects the club’s vibrant identity during this era.

Under the management of Gordon Milne, Leicester City established themselves as a solid First Division side, finishing 15th in both campaigns. Despite early struggles in the 1983–84 season, including a disastrous opening run of six straight defeats, the team rallied impressively, securing survival and stability with a strong mid-season turnaround. The following season followed a similar pattern, with consistency in league positioning but continued development in attacking play.

The standout feature of this era was Leicester’s fearsome forward line. Gary Lineker led the attack with exceptional finishing ability, scoring 28 goals in all competitions in 1984–85 and winning the First Division Golden Boot. Alongside him, Alan Smith and Steve Lynex formed a dynamic and high-scoring partnership that collectively contributed to over 100 goals across the two seasons.

The 1984–85 campaign marked Lineker’s final season at his boyhood club before his £800,000 move to Everton, but his performances cemented his reputation as one of England’s most clinical strikers and ensured this Leicester side is remembered for its fearless, entertaining football.

This shirt is closely associated with that attacking identity, an era where Leicester, despite mid-table finishes, became one of the most exciting and goal-rich teams in the First Division.

Washing Instructions

Care Instructions To keep your shirt looking its best for years to come, please follow these guidelines carefully.
🌡️ Temperature
Wash at 30°C maximum. Higher temperatures can damage the fabric, fade colours, and crack printed lettering.
🔄 Cycle
Use a gentle or delicate cycle only. Avoid heavy spin cycles which can distort the shirt shape.
👕 Inside Out
Always turn the shirt inside out before washing to protect the back print, badges, and any embroidery.
🧴 Detergent
Use a mild liquid detergent. Avoid powder detergents, bleach, or fabric softeners as these can degrade print quality.
💨 Drying
Air dry only — lay flat or hang away from direct sunlight. Do not tumble dry as heat will shrink fabric and damage prints.
🔥 Ironing
Do not iron directly over printed areas or badges. If needed, iron on the reverse side only using a low heat setting.
Do not dry clean. Do not wring or twist. Wash separately from items with zips or rough textures that could snag the fabric.
⚠️ Back Print & Badge Care Printed names, numbers, and woven badges are particularly sensitive to heat and abrasion. Always wash inside out, never iron over them directly, and avoid contact with rough surfaces during washing.
