Description
Home shirt worn by Liverpool F.C. during the 1991–92 season, the club’s centenary year, a campaign of contrast that combined FA Cup success with a disappointing league finish under manager Graeme Souness.
The shirt features a bold red base, defined by three diagonal white stripes emerging from the right shoulder across the upper front. It is completed with a simple red neckline, giving the kit a clean yet distinctive early-1990s aesthetic that reflects Liverpool’s evolving identity during a period of transition.
The 1991–92 season proved to be a turning point for the club. In the First Division, Liverpool finished 6th with 64 points, marking their lowest league finish since 1965 and their first time outside the top two since 1981. Despite league inconsistency, the season still delivered a major trophy in the form of the FA Cup.
Liverpool’s cup run culminated in a 2–0 victory over Sunderland A.F.C. at Wembley Stadium. Second-half goals from Michael Thomas and Ian Rush secured silverware in a final overseen on the touchline by assistant coach Ronnie Moran, as Souness underwent heart surgery during the closing stages of the season.
The campaign was also notable for significant squad transition. Liverpool invested heavily in new arrivals such as Dean Saunders, Mark Wright, and Michael Thomas, while key figures like Peter Beardsley and Steve McMahon departed. Amid this restructuring, young talent Steve McManaman began to establish himself as an exciting emerging force in the first team.
In Europe, Liverpool enjoyed a strong UEFA Cup run, with Dean Saunders finishing as the club’s top scorer with 23 goals in all competitions, including a prolific spell in continental competition.
This shirt remains closely associated with a landmark season of transition, one that combined domestic frustration with cup triumph, while marking the beginning of a new era for Liverpool FC at the dawn of the Premier League era.
