Description
Away shirt worn by Liverpool F.C. during the 1992–93 season, their inaugural campaign in the newly formed Premier League under manager Graeme Souness.
The shirt features a distinctive green base with three bold diagonal white stripes running from the right shoulder across the upper front of the design. It is finished with a matching green neckline, creating a clean yet striking away look that stood out during Liverpool’s early Premier League era of transition and rebuilding.
The 1992–93 season marked Liverpool’s 101st year in competitive football and their introduction as founder members of the Premier League. It proved to be a difficult and inconsistent campaign, with the team struggling for form for much of the season and even dropping into the lower half of the table at points. However, a strong late-season run, including a dominant 6–2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur F.C. on the final day, helped lift them to a 6th-place finish with 59 points.
Despite that late improvement, Liverpool were unable to mount any serious challenge for honours. They exited the FA Cup in the third round to Bolton Wanderers F.C., were eliminated in the fourth round of the League Cup, and also fell in the second round of the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup, leaving the season trophyless.
The squad featured a blend of established stars and emerging talent. Ian Rush led the line with 22 goals in all competitions, surpassing Roger Hunt’s long-standing record to become Liverpool’s all-time leading scorer. Mark Waltersprovided attacking creativity and end product, while younger players such as Jamie Redknapp, Don Hutchison, Steve McManaman, and the emerging Robbie Fowler began to signal the next generation of the club.
Transfer activity was a major theme of the season, with David James, Paul Stewart, Stig Inge Bjørnebye, and Torben Piechnik arriving as part of Graeme Souness’s restructuring project, while established names such as Dean Saunders, Ray Houghton, and Barry Venison departed Anfield.
This away shirt is closely associated with a challenging but formative season in Liverpool’s modern history, one defined by inconsistency, heavy squad transition, and the early emergence of players who would shape the club’s future.
