Description

Home shirt worn by Liverpool FC in the 2001 UEFA Cup Final, a defining moment in one of the most successful campaigns in the club’s modern history. The shirt formed part of the famous 2000/01 season, when Gérard Houllier’s side secured a remarkable cup treble, lifting the League Cup, FA Cup and UEFA Cup.

The shirt features a vibrant all red base with a distinctive fold down polo collar incorporating a sharp V neck insertion and fine white tipped piping around the edges. Prominent white piping runs horizontally across the upper chest and follows the raglan shoulder seams, creating a clean and unmistakable early 2000s design. The central chest layout places the club crest beneath the collar, while the Carlsberg sponsor is displayed prominently across the centre in crisp white lettering.

The UEFA Cup Final took place on 16 May 2001 at the Westfalenstadion in Dortmund, where Liverpool faced Alavés in one of the most dramatic finals in the competition’s history. Liverpool raced into a 3–1 lead through goals from Markus Babbel, Steven Gerrard and Gary McAllister, but Alavés fought back to level the score at 4–4 and force extra time. With the match heading towards penalties, a golden goal own goal in the 116th minute secured a 5–4 victory for Liverpool and completed their historic cup treble.

The 2000/01 campaign marked the emergence of a new generation of Liverpool stars alongside established figures. Michael Owen enjoyed another prolific season, while Robbie Fowler, Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher and Sami Hyypiä were among the key members of Houllier’s squad.
