Description
Away shirt worn by Liverpool F.C. during the iconic 2000–01 FA Cup Final season, a historic campaign under manager Gérard Houllier that formed part of the club’s famous cup treble.
The shirt features a distinctive mustard yellow base, one of the most recognisable away designs from Liverpool’s early-2000s era. Two navy panels run up either side of the shirt and continue under the sleeves, creating a bold structural look, while a navy collar and neckline finished with a mustard yellow stripe completes the design. The colour combination made it instantly memorable during a season filled with high-pressure cup nights and dramatic comebacks.
The 2000–01 FA Cup campaign culminated in one of the most famous finals in Liverpool’s history. On 12 May 2001 at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, the first FA Cup final ever held outside England, Liverpool faced Arsenal F.C. in a tightly contested match. Arsenal led 1–0 after Freddie Ljungberg’s second-half goal and appeared to be in control heading into the final stages.
However, the game was transformed by a late Liverpool surge. Michael Owen equalised in the 83rd minute after reacting quickest to a loose ball in the box, before striking again in the 88th minute after a long pass from Patrik Berger. Owen’s composed finish past David Seaman completed a stunning turnaround, sealing a 2–1 victory and earning him the reputation as the “Michael Owen Final.”
The win secured Liverpool’s sixth FA Cup title and formed a crucial part of their historic treble-winning season, alongside victories in the League Cup and UEFA Cup. The squad featured key contributions from players such as Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher, Robbie Fowler, and Gary McAllister, all of whom played important roles throughout the campaign.
This shirt is forever associated with one of the most dramatic late comebacks in FA Cup Final history, symbolising Liverpool’s resilience and Michael Owen’s match-winning brilliance on a defining night at Cardiff.
