Description
Home shirt worn by Manchester City F.C. during the 2007–08 season, a roller-coaster campaign defined by new ownership, a high-profile managerial appointment, and one of the most memorable derby seasons in modern club history under Sven-Göran Eriksson.
The shirt is built on a clean light blue base, enhanced with thin vertical white pinstripes that run through the body, giving it a subtle retro texture while still feeling modern for the late-2000s era. A navy trim runs neatly along the base of the shirt, adding contrast and structure to the design. The neckline is light blue with a navy trim detail, while the sleeves are finished with bold navy cuffs that anchor the overall look and balance the lighter tones of the shirt.
The 2007–08 season saw City begin a new chapter under the ownership of Thaksin Shinawatra, who backed an ambitious squad rebuild led by manager Sven-Göran Eriksson. The early months of the campaign were hugely encouraging, with City briefly sitting inside the top four thanks to an exceptional home record and strong attacking performances.
One of the defining features of the season was City’s remarkable derby success over Manchester United. A famous 1–0 victory at Eastlands, courtesy of a stunning Geovanni strike, set the tone early on, before a historic 2–1 win at Old Trafford completed a rare league double over their rivals, a feat that immediately elevated optimism among supporters.
Key contributions came from players such as Elano, Darius Vassell, Benjani Mwaruwari, and captain Richard Dunne, who anchored the side through an inconsistent but eventful season.
However, form collapsed dramatically in the second half of the campaign, culminating in a final-day 8–1 defeat to Middlesbrough, the club’s heaviest ever Premier League loss. Despite this, City still finished 9th with 55 points and remarkably secured qualification for the UEFA Cup via the Fair Play ranking system.
Eriksson departed at the end of the season amid internal tensions, with Mark Hughes appointed as his successor. This shirt therefore represents a uniquely dramatic season of progress, promise, and collapse, a true turning point in the club’s modern history.
