Description
Away shirt worn by Manchester City F.C. during the 2012–13 season, a campaign that saw the club attempt to defend their historic Premier League crown while competing across four major competitions.
The design features a rich maroon base accented by vibrant yellow detailing, reviving one of Manchester City's most recognisable alternative colour combinations. A traditional maroon neckline completes the understated look, creating a smart and elegant away kit that quickly became a favourite among supporters.
The 2012–13 season proved to be a frustrating one for Manchester City despite beginning the campaign as reigning English champions. Managed by Roberto Mancini, City finished 2nd in the Premier League with 78 points, ending the season 11 points behind rivals Manchester United F.C..
While the league title slipped away, City did begin the season with silverware by defeating Chelsea F.C. 3–1 in the FA Community Shield. However, success in the major competitions proved elusive. Their UEFA Champions League campaign ended in disappointment after finishing bottom of a difficult group containing Real Madrid C.F., Borussia Dortmund and AFC Ajax, failing to win a single match.
The club's best opportunity for major silverware came in the FA Cup. City reached the final at Wembley Stadium but suffered a shock 1–0 defeat to Wigan Athletic F.C., with a dramatic late goal denying them the trophy and effectively ending their hopes of salvaging the season.
Despite the team's struggles, several players produced strong individual campaigns. Carlos Tevez finished as the club's leading scorer with 20 goals in all competitions, while fellow forwards Sergio Agüero and Edin Džeko also contributed important goals throughout the season. Meanwhile, captain Vincent Kompany, midfield powerhouse Yaya Touré and creator-in-chief David Silva remained key figures in the squad.
The FA Cup final defeat ultimately proved to be Roberto Mancini's final match in charge. Having delivered the club's first league title in 44 years just twelve months earlier, the Italian was dismissed shortly before the end of the season, bringing a successful era to a close and paving the way for a new chapter under Manuel Pellegrini.
Remembered for its distinctive maroon colourway and worn during a pivotal season in Manchester City's modern rise, the 2012–13 away shirt remains a standout design from an era that helped establish the club among Europe's elite.
