Description
Home shirt worn by Manchester City F.C. during the 2015–16 season, a significant transitional campaign that delivered domestic silverware, a historic European breakthrough, and the final season of Manuel Pellegrini before the arrival of Pep Guardiola.
The design is built on City’s traditional sky blue base, kept clean and classic throughout the body of the shirt. It features a crisp white collar and matching white cuffs, giving the kit a simple, elegant contrast that reflects a more traditional interpretation of the club’s identity. The understated detailing places emphasis on the shirt’s heritage feel, aligning with a season where experience and transition were equally important themes.
The 2015–16 season was one of the most eventful in Manchester City’s modern history. In the Premier League, the club finished 4th with 66 points, narrowly securing Champions League qualification on goal difference ahead of rivals Manchester United F.C..
City’s standout achievement came in the League Cup, where they lifted the trophy after a 1–1 draw with Liverpool F.C. at Wembley, winning 3–1 on penalties. Backup goalkeeper Willy Caballero played a decisive role in the shootout, making crucial saves to secure silverware.
In Europe, City reached a milestone by advancing to their first-ever UEFA Champions League semi-final. Their run included disciplined knockout performances before being eliminated 1–0 on aggregate by Real Madrid C.F., narrowly missing out on a historic final appearance.
The squad was powered by a mix of elite talent and emerging stars. Sergio Agüero remained the club’s key attacking threat with 29 goals in all competitions, while Kevin De Bruyne made an immediate and transformative impact in his debut season. Raheem Sterling and Nicolás Otamendi also strengthened the squad significantly, and academy graduate Kelechi Iheanacho enjoyed a breakout year with important goals.
The season concluded with confirmation of Pep Guardiola’s appointment, signalling the end of the Pellegrini era and the beginning of a new chapter. The light blue home shirt with its clean white detailing remains a symbol of a season defined by progress, silverware, and transition at the top level of English and European football.
