Description
Away shirt worn by Manchester United F.C. during the 1993–94 and 1994–95 seasons, a defining two-year spell under manager Sir Alex Ferguson that included a historic domestic Double followed by a dramatic title collapse and one of the most controversial moments in Premier League history.
The shirt features a bold black base, framed by a black collar and neckline detailed with sharp yellow striping. The sleeves are finished with blue cuffs accented by a yellow stripe, giving the kit a distinctive and aggressive look that stood out strongly from the club’s traditional red identity.
The 1993–94 season saw Manchester United dominate English football from early autumn onwards. Ferguson’s side finished eight points clear at the top of the Premier League with 92 points, combining power, pace, and discipline across the pitch. The campaign culminated in a commanding 4–0 victory over Chelsea F.C. in the FA Cup Final at Wembley, securing the club’s first domestic Double since 1963. Only a League Cup Final defeat to Aston Villa F.C. prevented an unprecedented treble.
Key to their success was the brilliance of Éric Cantona, who scored 25 goals in all competitions and dictated much of United’s attacking play. Around him, Roy Keane provided steel and leadership after his record-breaking move from Nottingham Forest F.C., while Peter Schmeichel, Steve Bruce, Gary Pallister and Ryan Giggs formed the spine of one of the most dominant sides of the era.
The 1994–95 campaign brought chaos and near-misses. United’s season was destabilised by Cantona’s infamous suspension following his altercation at Crystal Palace. Without their talisman for much of the run-in, Ferguson’s side narrowly lost the Premier League title to Blackburn Rovers F.C. by a single point and suffered FA Cup final heartbreak against Everton F.C..
Despite the disappointment, United remained one of the strongest teams in England, finishing second with 88 points and continuing to set the standard for intensity and ambition. This iconic black away kit became forever associated with both the heights of the Double-winning season and the dramatic tension of a team operating at the very edge of greatness.
