Description
Third shirt worn by Manchester United F.C. during the 1998/99 season, a campaign immortalised by the club becoming the first English side to complete the historic continental Treble. Under Sir Alex Ferguson, this shirt is associated with one of the most iconic and pressure-filled seasons in football history, as United balanced relentless domestic and European schedules to secure Premier League, FA Cup, and UEFA Champions League glory.
The design is built on a deep midnight black base, which in certain lighting takes on a very dark navy tone. Woven into the fabric is a subtle tonal geometric jacquard pattern, giving the shirt texture and a distinctive 90s sheen that catches the light across the pitch. This understated foundation reflects the intensity and focus of a squad built for decisive moments on the biggest stages.
Around the embroidered Manchester United crest sits a commemorative Treble-era detail, marking the historic achievement of the season. The collar is a structured ribbed black design, sharply finished with lime green and white trim along the edges, a colour accent that is mirrored on the sleeve cuffs with matching horizontal piping. The overall look is bold yet minimal, built for European nights where fine margins decided history.
On the pitch, United’s season is defined by relentless consistency and unforgettable drama. In the Premier League, they clinched the title on the final day with a 2–1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford, edging out Arsenal by a single point. In the FA Cup, they defeated Newcastle United 2–0 in the final at Wembley, following a famous semi-final replay victory over Arsenal, highlighted by Ryan Giggs’s legendary solo goal.
The UEFA Champions League campaign produced one of the most dramatic finals ever played. Against FC Bayern Munich in Barcelona, United trailed until stoppage time before two late goals from Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjær completed a stunning 2–1 comeback in the 90+1 and 90+3 minutes to seal European glory.
Key to this success was the legendary midfield quartet of Roy Keane, David Beckham, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs, providing control, creativity and decisive moments throughout the season, supported by the deadly striking partnership of Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole.
