Description
Home shirt worn by Manchester United F.C. during the 2000–02 period, a kit associated with a dramatic shift from record-breaking dominance to a more turbulent but still highly competitive era under Sir Alex Ferguson. This shirt became synonymous with both the club’s historic domestic achievements and the beginning of a new attacking phase featuring emerging stars.
The jersey is built around the club’s traditional rich solid red base, maintaining a bold and instantly recognisable identity. Woven into the fabric is a subtle horizontal line texture that runs across the torso, adding depth and a refined visual rhythm without overpowering the simplicity of the design.
A defining feature of the shirt is its thick black V-neck collar, finished with a crisp white inner trim. The left side of the collar overlaps the right at the base of the V, giving it a layered, structured appearance. This same design language is carried through to the sleeve cuffs, which are finished with thick black edging and a thin white pinstripe, creating a consistent and balanced trim across the whole shirt.
On the pitch, this shirt marked two very different seasons. The 2000–01 campaign saw United complete a historic third consecutive Premier League title, finishing ten points ahead of Arsenal F.C.. The season was defined by attacking dominance, including a famous 6–1 victory over Arsenal at Old Trafford, where Dwight Yorke scored a hat-trick.
Key contributions came from Teddy Sheringham, who finished as the club’s top scorer with 21 goals and won both the PFA and FWA Player of the Year awards, and David Beckham, who led the league in assists with 12. Behind them, captain Roy Keane controlled the midfield, while goalkeeper Fabien Barthez provided stability at the back.
The following 2001–02 season brought a more frustrating outcome, with United finishing third after a difficult winter spell and an eventual title loss to Arsenal at Old Trafford. Despite this, the team remained prolific in attack, scoring the most goals in the league, and saw the explosive emergence of Ruud van Nistelrooy, who netted 36 goals across all competitions. The contrast between domestic success and European near-misses defined the era, making this shirt emblematic of both triumph and transition.
