Description
Home shirt worn by Manchester United F.C. during the 2012–13 season, a historic campaign that delivered the club’s 20th English league title and marked the final season of Sir Alex Ferguson’s legendary 27-year reign at Old Trafford. The shirt became synonymous with a dominant title-winning side inspired by the arrival of Robin van Persie, whose goals helped return the Premier League trophy to Manchester.
The design is centred around a bold all-over red gingham check pattern, making it one of the most distinctive home shirts in the club’s history. Inspired by Manchester’s textile heritage and the cotton mills that played a vital role in the city’s industrial development, the pattern gives the shirt a unique identity while maintaining the club’s traditional red colour scheme.
The neckline features a solid black V-neck collar that creates a sharp contrast against the red checks, adding a modern edge to the historic inspiration behind the design. Its clean, structured appearance helps frame the shirt and balances the boldness of the gingham pattern.
Inside the collar sits the printed motto “Forged in Industry, Striving for Glory,” a tribute to Manchester’s industrial roots and the club’s enduring pursuit of success. This subtle detail reinforces the connection between the city’s history and one of the most successful periods in Manchester United’s story.
On the pitch, the 2012–13 season was one of celebration and dominance. Manchester United F.C. won the Premier League title with 89 points, finishing 11 points clear at the top of the table. The championship was secured on 22 April 2013 with a 3–0 victory over Aston Villa, powered by a memorable Robin van Persie hat-trick. United finished the league campaign with 86 goals, the highest total in the division, while also reaching the Champions League Round of 16, the FA Cup quarter-finals, and the League Cup fourth round.
Van Persie finished as the club’s top scorer with 30 goals in all competitions, including 26 in the Premier League to claim the Golden Boot. He was supported by Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernández, who contributed 16 and 18 goals respectively. The season concluded with an unforgettable 5–5 draw against West Bromwich Albion, which served as Sir Alex Ferguson’s 1,500th and final match as Manchester United manager.
This shirt therefore represents a season of triumph, transition, and legacy, combining one of the club’s most unique home kit designs with the final title-winning campaign of the most successful manager in English football history.
