Description
Away shirt worn by Manchester United F.C. during the 2018–19 season, a turbulent campaign defined by a mid-season managerial change and inconsistent domestic form. The shirt is associated with players such as Marcus Rashford, Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku and Anthony Martial, as the squad navigated a season of transition under José Mourinho and later Ole Gunnar Solskjær.
The design is most famous for its bold and unprecedented pastel pink colourway, marking the first time in Manchester United’s history that the club wore a pink away shirt. The base is a soft ice pink tone that gives the kit a distinctive and modern appearance, standing out sharply from traditional United away designs while maintaining a clean, minimal aesthetic.
Trim and accent details are rendered in a slightly darker, more saturated shade of pink, most notably along the sleeve cuffs and subtle stripe elements. This tonal layering adds depth to the shirt while keeping the overall look refined and cohesive.
All branding, lettering and detailing are finished in a stark black, creating a strong visual contrast against the pastel base. This includes the club crest, sponsor logo and manufacturer detailing, all of which stand out prominently without disrupting the simplicity of the design.
The shirt is completed with a simple ribbed crewneck collar, maintaining a classic silhouette that balances the otherwise bold and unconventional colour choice. The understated neckline ensures the focus remains on the shirt’s unique tonal pink presentation.
On the pitch, Manchester United F.C. endured a season of instability, finishing 6th in the Premier League and missing out on Champions League qualification. José Mourinho was dismissed in December 2018, with Ole Gunnar Solskjær arriving as caretaker before a strong early unbeaten run temporarily revived the campaign. However, results faded in the closing months, and the season ultimately ended without silverware.
In cup competitions, United were eliminated in the FA Cup quarter-finals by Wolverhampton Wanderers and suffered a penalty shootout exit to Derby County in the EFL Cup. In Europe, they produced a famous comeback against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League Round of 16 before being eliminated by Barcelona in the quarter-finals.
This shirt therefore represents a season of contrast, combining one of the boldest and most unconventional away designs in Manchester United history with a year defined by transition, flashes of brilliance, and overall inconsistency.
