Description
Home shirt worn by Manchester United F.C. during the 2018–19 season, a turbulent and trophy-less campaign that saw a major managerial change and an inconsistent league finish. The shirt is associated with key players such as Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford, Romelu Lukaku and Anthony Martial during a season defined by transition and inconsistency at Old Trafford.
The design features a striking red-to-black gradient that flows from the traditional Manchester United red at the top of the shirt into a solid black base at the bottom. This transition creates a bold, modern visual identity while still anchoring the kit in the club’s classic colours.
The defining feature of the shirt is the horizontal “train track” graphic running across the torso. Made up of black lines of varying thickness, the pattern pays homage to Manchester United’s railway roots as Newton Heath LYR Football Club, founded in 1878. As the design moves downward, the lines become thicker and more tightly packed, gradually blending into a subtle hexagonal texture before merging into the solid black lower section.
On the pitch, Manchester United F.C. endured a disappointing Premier League campaign, finishing 6th with 66 points and missing out on Champions League qualification. José Mourinho began the season as manager but was dismissed in December 2018 following poor results and internal tensions. Ole Gunnar Solskjær then took over as caretaker, guiding the team through a remarkable early revival before being appointed permanently, although form declined sharply towards the end of the season.
In cup competitions, United were eliminated in the FA Cup quarter-finals by Wolverhampton Wanderers and suffered an early EFL Cup exit on penalties to Derby County. In Europe, they produced one of the club’s most famous modern comebacks, overturning a 2–0 first-leg deficit to defeat Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League Round of 16, before ultimately falling 4–0 on aggregate to Barcelona in the quarter-finals.
Individually, Paul Pogba finished as the club’s top scorer with 16 goals in all competitions and also led the team in assists, while Romelu Lukaku, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial all contributed significant goal returns in a forward line that showed flashes of quality but lacked consistency.
This shirt therefore represents a season of change and instability, combining a bold industrial-inspired design with a campaign defined by managerial upheaval, dramatic European moments, and an ultimately underwhelming domestic finish.
