Description
Home shirt worn by Newcastle United F.C. during the 1993–94 and 1994–95 seasons, the period that saw Kevin Keegan’s side become one of the most exciting teams in English football and earn the legendary nickname “The Entertainers”.
The shirt features Newcastle’s iconic black and white vertical stripes, complemented by a black collar and matching black cuffs. A distinctive blue star positioned in the centre of the chest gives the design a unique identity, helping make it one of the most recognisable Newcastle United shirts of the Premier League era.
Following promotion to the newly formed Premier League, manager Kevin Keegan transformed Newcastle into an attacking force that captivated supporters across the country. The 1993–94 season saw the Magpies finish an outstanding 3rd place with 77 points, securing European qualification for the first time since the 1970s. Newcastle also finished as the division’s highest scorers, netting 82 league goals and establishing themselves among England’s elite clubs once again.
At the heart of the team was the devastating partnership between Peter Beardsley and Andy Cole. The pair combined for an incredible 55 Premier League goals, with Cole enjoying a record-breaking campaign that yielded 41 goals in all competitions and earned him the PFA Young Player of the Year award. Supporting them were key figures including Rob Lee, Lee Clark, Scott Sellars and Steve Howey. A memorable 7–1 victory over Swindon Town F.C. perfectly showcased Newcastle’s thrilling attacking philosophy.
The 1994–95 season began in spectacular fashion, with Newcastle winning nine consecutive league matches and drawing two more to surge to the top of the table. The club also returned to European competition through the UEFA Cup, further enhancing the excitement surrounding Keegan’s project. New arrivals such as Philippe Albert and Marc Hottigerstrengthened the squad as Newcastle sought to build on the previous season’s success.
One of the most dramatic moments of the campaign came in January 1995 when Andy Cole was sold to Manchester United F.C. in a move that stunned supporters and the wider football world. Despite the departure of their star striker and a late-season dip in form, Newcastle still secured a respectable 6th-place finish, setting the stage for the arrival of Les Ferdinand and the famous title challenge that followed in 1995–96.
Worn during the birth of “The Entertainers,” this home shirt represents one of the most influential periods in Newcastle United’s modern history. Associated with Kevin Keegan’s attacking revolution, Andy Cole’s prolific goalscoring exploits, and the club’s return to the national spotlight, it remains a true classic from a golden era on Tyneside.
