Description

Home shirt worn by Newell's Old Boys during the 1990–1993 seasons.

The shirt features Newell’s Old Boys’ famous half red and half black vertically split design, creating one of the most distinctive identities in Argentine football. The asymmetrical look continues into the sleeves, with one sleeve red and the other black, while contrasting detailing runs down each arm, red on the black sleeve and black on the red sleeve. A half red and half black neckline completes the design, perfectly tying together the club’s traditional colours in a bold and unmistakable finish.

The 1990–93 period is widely regarded as the greatest era in Newell’s Old Boys history. Under the management of club legend Marcelo Bielsa, the team introduced an intense, revolutionary high-pressing style that transformed the club into one of the most admired sides in South America. Newell’s won the 1990 Apertura and then defeated Boca Juniors in a dramatic two-legged championship final to become overall Argentine champions in 1990–91. Bielsa’s side added another major honour by winning the 1992 Clausura, clinching the title on the final day.

The team also reached the peak of continental football in the 1992 Copa Libertadores. Newell’s defeated several major opponents to reach the final and beat São Paulo 1–0 in the first leg, only to lose the trophy on penalties after the return match at the Morumbi. Despite the heartbreak, the campaign cemented the club’s reputation across the continent.

This era featured iconic figures such as Gerardo “Tata” Martino, Mauricio Pochettino, Eduardo Berizzo, goalkeeper Norberto Scoponi, and later a brief but celebrated appearance from Diego Maradona in 1993. It was also during this period that a young Lionel Messi began in the club’s youth system, strengthening Newell’s reputation as one of Argentina’s great producers of football talent. Bielsa’s influence on the club became so profound that the stadium was later renamed Estadio Marcelo Bielsa in his honour.

This shirt is remembered as one of Newell’s Old Boys’ most iconic kits, symbolising a golden era of domestic triumph, continental ambition, and the revolutionary football identity created under Marcelo Bielsa.

Washing Instructions

Care Instructions To keep your shirt looking its best for years to come, please follow these guidelines carefully.
🌡️ Temperature
Wash at 30°C maximum. Higher temperatures can damage the fabric, fade colours, and crack printed lettering.
🔄 Cycle
Use a gentle or delicate cycle only. Avoid heavy spin cycles which can distort the shirt shape.
👕 Inside Out
Always turn the shirt inside out before washing to protect the back print, badges, and any embroidery.
🧴 Detergent
Use a mild liquid detergent. Avoid powder detergents, bleach, or fabric softeners as these can degrade print quality.
💨 Drying
Air dry only — lay flat or hang away from direct sunlight. Do not tumble dry as heat will shrink fabric and damage prints.
🔥 Ironing
Do not iron directly over printed areas or badges. If needed, iron on the reverse side only using a low heat setting.
Do not dry clean. Do not wring or twist. Wash separately from items with zips or rough textures that could snag the fabric.
⚠️ Back Print & Badge Care Printed names, numbers, and woven badges are particularly sensitive to heat and abrasion. Always wash inside out, never iron over them directly, and avoid contact with rough surfaces during washing.
