Description
Home shirt worn by Tottenham Hotspur F.C. during the 1995–96 and 1996–97 seasons, a transitional period under manager Gerry Francis in which Spurs evolved from the free-scoring “Famous Five” style into a more structured, physically resilient mid-table Premier League side built around a devastating English strike partnership.
The shirt features a clean white base with a traditional navy collar detailed by a single white stripe, paired with navy cuffs and subtle navy detailing running down both sleeves. The overall design is understated and classic, reflecting a more disciplined and pragmatic era for the club following the departure of several high-profile attacking names.
The 1995–96 season marked an encouraging return to stability after the chaotic early-90s period. Tottenham, led by Gerry Francis, rebuilt their attack around the emerging partnership of Teddy Sheringham and Chris Armstrong. The duo proved highly effective, scoring 46 goals between them in all competitions and powering Spurs to an 8th-place Premier League finish.
Despite inconsistent form early in the campaign, Spurs improved significantly through the winter months. However, their season was mixed in cup competitions—reaching the FA Cup quarter-finals before being eliminated on penalties by Nottingham Forest, while also enduring a difficult and heavily criticised UEFA Intertoto Cup campaign that included a heavy defeat to FC Köln.
The 1996–97 season proved more challenging, as injuries to key attacking players, particularly Armstrong and Darren Anderton, severely limited Tottenham’s offensive output. Without consistent firepower, the team struggled to maintain momentum and scored just 44 league goals across the season.
New signings such as Allan Nielsen, John Scales, and Ramon Vega were brought in to reinforce the squad, but consistency remained elusive. Spurs ultimately slipped to a 10th-place finish, and the season concluded with the departure of Teddy Sheringham to Manchester United, marking the end of a crucial attacking era at White Hart Lane.
