Description
Away shirt worn by West Ham United F.C. during the 1999 to 2001 period.
The shirt features a clean white front and back, sharply contrasted by two navy panels running down either side of the body, creating a modern and structured look. The navy sleeves are accented with maroon panels underneath the armpit area, adding a subtle nod to the club’s traditional colours. A navy collar and neckline complete the design, finished with a white and maroon stripe that ties the aesthetic back to West Ham’s identity while maintaining a sleek, contemporary feel.
This away shirt is associated with the Harry Redknapp era at West Ham United F.C., a period defined by attacking football, squad evolution, and contrasting fortunes between strong European qualification and later domestic instability. The 1999–2000 season saw the club finish 9th in the Premier League with 55 points, building on a side capable of competing comfortably in the top half.
That campaign is best remembered for West Ham’s UEFA Intertoto Cup triumph in 1999, which secured qualification for European competition after victories over teams including FC Metz. In the UEFA Cup, however, their run ended against FC Steaua București. Domestically, the side produced memorable moments such as a thrilling 5–4 win over Bradford City A.F.C. and Paolo Di Canio’s iconic volley against Wimbledon F.C., which was widely celebrated as Goal of the Season.
The 2000–01 season brought a sharp downturn in fortunes. The departure of academy graduate Rio Ferdinand to Leeds United F.C. for a British record fee disrupted squad stability and marked a turning point for the club. West Ham finished 15th in the Premier League with 42 points, narrowly avoiding relegation before Harry Redknapp’s departure late in the season following tensions with the board.
Despite league struggles, the FA Cup provided a highlight, with West Ham famously defeating Manchester United F.C. 1–0 at Old Trafford in one of the club’s most iconic cup performances of the era.
This away shirt represents a transitional but memorable period in West Ham United’s history, reflecting both European ambition and the early signs of instability that defined the club at the turn of the millennium.
