Description
Home shirt worn by West Ham United F.C. during the 1999–2000 and 2000–01 FA Premier League seasons, a contrasting two-year spell defined by European qualification, dramatic attacking football, and a difficult transition toward the end of the Harry Redknapp era under manager Harry Redknapp.
The shirt is built around West Ham’s traditional identity, featuring a rich claret base with striking white pinstripes running vertically down both sides of the front. The sleeves are finished with bold blue and white striping, adding a distinctive contrast that reflects the club’s historic colour palette. Completing the design is a standout striped collar and matching cuffs in claret, white, and blue, giving the shirt a classic late-90s Premier League aesthetic that is instantly recognisable to supporters of the era.
The 1999–2001 period encapsulated two very different West Ham campaigns. The 1999–2000 season was a high point, as the club finished 9th in the Premier League with 55 points and secured UEFA Intertoto Cup success, earning qualification for European competition. It was a season defined by attacking flair and unforgettable moments, including a sensational 5–4 victory over Bradford City at Upton Park and a Goal of the Season-winning scissor volley from Paolo Di Canio against Wimbledon.
That squad blended experience and emerging talent, with Stuart Pearce providing leadership at the back, Frank Lampardcontrolling midfield, and a young Joe Cole beginning to establish himself as one of England’s most exciting prospects. The arrival of striker Frédéric Kanouté added further firepower to an already expressive attacking unit.
However, the 2000–01 campaign proved far more challenging. West Ham struggled for consistency and spent much of the season fighting to stay clear of the relegation zone, ultimately finishing 15th with 42 points. Despite flashes of quality from Kanouté and Di Canio, the team’s away form and defensive instability undermined their progress.
The season ended in upheaval as Harry Redknapp was dismissed in May 2001, marking the end of a significant chapter in the club’s modern history. This shirt therefore represents both sides of that era, memorable European nights and attacking brilliance, alongside the beginning of a major rebuild that would follow in the early 2000s.
