Description
Third shirt worn by West Ham United F.C. during the 1999 to 2001 period.
The shirt features a bold black base with white detailing running throughout, giving it a sleek and modern aesthetic compared to the club’s traditional claret and blue identity. A black collar and neckline maintain a clean, understated finish, while a subtle blue and white stripe adds a touch of West Ham’s core colours, linking the design back to the club’s heritage. The overall look reflects the minimalist, fashion-led styling of early 2000s football kits.
This shirt is associated with the Harry Redknapp era at West Ham United F.C., a transitional but exciting period for the club between 1999 and 2001. The 1999–2000 season saw West Ham enjoy one of their strongest modern Premier League campaigns, finishing 9th with 55 points and establishing themselves firmly in the top half of the table.
That season is best remembered for European qualification via the Intertoto Cup, which West Ham won in 1999 by defeating FC Metz. This success led to UEFA Cup participation, where the club was eventually eliminated by FC Steaua București. Domestically, the side produced memorable moments including a dramatic 5–4 win over Bradford City A.F.C.and Paolo Di Canio’s famous volley against Wimbledon F.C., which won Goal of the Season.
The 2000–01 season proved far more turbulent. The sale of academy graduate Rio Ferdinand to Leeds United F.C. for a British record fee disrupted the squad and marked a turning point in the era. West Ham finished 15th in the Premier League with 42 points, narrowly avoiding relegation before manager Harry Redknapp was dismissed shortly before the end of the season following tensions with the board.
Despite the struggles, the FA Cup provided a highlight as West Ham famously defeated Manchester United F.C. 1–0 at Old Trafford, with Paolo Di Canio once again playing a decisive role in one of the club’s most iconic cup performances.
This third shirt remains closely linked to a period of contrast at West Ham United, combining European qualification and unforgettable attacking football with the beginning of instability that would shape the early 2000s.
